Internal Finance Corporation (IFC) a member of the World Bank Group publishes report on ranking of various economies around the glob in terms of ease of starting and doing business. The publishing of the report has been first started in the year 2004. A latest report on “Doing Business 2010” has been published recently. This report is significantly important following the recent backdrop of a global economic crisis. Accordingly, the report has covered almost more than 70% of the 183 economies around the world. According to the report, governments have set new trends in business regulation reform as a record 131 economies around the globe reformed business regulation in 2008/09.
‘Doing Business 2010: Reforming through Difficult Times’ recorded 287 reforms between June 2008 and May 2009, up 20 per cent from the previous year. Reformers around the world focused on making it easier to start and operate businesses, strengthening property rights, and improving commercial dispute resolution and bankruptcy procedures.

1. Singapore, a consistent reformer, has emerged as the top-ranked economy on the ease of doing business for the fourth year in a row.
